Paris philatelic exhibition "Planete Timbre 2010"

From june 12 to 20 2010 in Paris at Le Parc Floral de Vincennes.

I will try to go. I haven't been to a philatelic exhibition for at least 10 years. I went to a dealer show about 5 years ago in Montreal (Canada), but it was really small. I did not find anything of interest for my collection and ended up drinking coffee with a fellow philatelist and my father. Both really happy to show off their latest acquisition.

But now we are talking a big exhibit, so hopefully I will find some interesting items for my collections.

First, I'll make sure to get a couple of the salon special FDC.

As some of you might know I am currently on vacation in Canada.
It's kinda depressing to have so little snow right now in Canada since I am here for familly and friends of course...and for SNOW. It's depressing to see that France got more snow in the last month than we got here. And no freezing weather either. I want my money back!!!!

I'll be back "home" in France soon, and the store will reopen on/around march 1st.
I got plenty of new stamps and mixture to list and hopefully will manage to have close to a hundred of new items in store in the first week of march: off paper mixtures, France FDC's from the 1950-65 period, the latest 2010 France stamps and more.

Hopefully The French postal administration will be over its 2009 issuing frenzy otherwise they may soon join the select list of wallpaper issuing "countries" along with Ajman, Umm Al Quiman and the like.

Stampslore, squidoo and google

Long time ago (sometimes in 2007) I registered to squidoo and made a page there to promote my ebay store. To be honest I didn't tend very much to this page, and for almost two years it just sat there, with very to no updates. But it keep bringing me traffic, days in and days out. Recently, I become interested again in squidoo and decided it was time to refresh my Stampslore page.

Dilemma: I hated the special template Squidoo did for us ebay store owners back in 2007 and wanted to revert to one of the regular template. That couldn't be done. I had to do the page again, but was told that if I keep the same url, I will keep the backlinks and hopefully, remain seen on google search. If you search for Stampslore, my Squidoo page is coming up in third place (first entry being this blog). Squidoo is a good promotional tool.

Now time will tell if I did a mistake or not! The new page is done (need a little more content, but the basic is done).

Free insertion fee (auction only) on ebay France today December 6th

It's been a long time I haven't list anything on Ebay France because honestly it is usually a waste of time. But free is free, so why not. I am listing mainly art, anthropology, history and crafts books and magazines, some stamps to test the water and a couple other collectibles. I'll give my selling stats next week.

I did start the auctions close to what I want because I know that for most categories, auction is dead on Ebay France.

If you want to list and enjoy the free listing you need to list on auction format, 7 days. Any extras will cost you the usual ebay fees.

Anything that can save us a few cents here and there is good. So this announcement by Stampwants/Bidstart is worth mentioning: Additional picture fees for store listings are now only charged once when you create a listing, and are non-recurring

Good for seller's pocket, and good for buyer. More pics on listings can make the difference between the buynow button and the back button.

Often as a buyer I'll hit the back button if not enough information is presented. I have to say that this happen to me mainly on Delcampe. I have pass dozen and dozen of stamps for lack of pictures or description.

A few days ago, I was talking about the new payment reminders sent by ebay against seller's will. Here's a copy of the email a buyer will receive after 48 hours:

"Hi (buyer),
Thanks for your recent purchase on eBay! Please remember to pay for your item so that the seller can ship it to you as soon as possible. Thanks again for shopping on eBay!"

The title of the email is: "Don't forget to pay for your (name of your item). Thanks!"

I don't like this at all. Non payer won't pay regardless, and good buyers might get upset. Personally I don't expect payment to be instant, and I certainly don't send reminder before at 6-7 days. With this new improvement, buyers might feel annoyed after the first email and harassed after the second one (send after 4 days).

New ebay policy will alienated buyers and sellers even more

I really hope eBay will back out of this new policy because it will lead to even more buyers versus sellers problems. There is no way for a seller to opt-out of this new "improvement". So what is it all about?? Something that can hurt sellers DSR and even worst, it can make them buyers angry at them.

EBay has started to send automated "payment reminders" to buyers who did not pay their seller. No big deal you think? Think again, eBay starts sending them after only 48 hours!
So you bought let's say 10 items from a seller and are waiting for another auction ending in 7 days? You will receive 10 of these nice reminders after 48 hours, and more coming your way if you didn't pay after 96 hours!

Sellers cannot opt out of the first wave of reminders, they can only opt out for the second waves. But believe me, most sellers are not even aware of this new "improvement". So their buyers will be receiving quite a lot of useless of reminders.

In my opinion, buyers may feel harassed and this can lead to even more problems for the sellers.

Leave communication tools into the sellers hands.

With the name change, comes bigger and faster server and a
future move to expand to new categories (collectibles and such) and hopefully bring many more buyers and sellers. If they are as successful with the new categories as with their stamps auction, they could become a very interesting ebay alternative to collectors worldwide.

PayPal as payment method on Delcampe

Finally Delcampe has made the paypal move. Paypal is now integrated, along with moneybookers, to the checkout system. Many sellers were offering paypal already, but it was
necessitating extra work on the checkout process....not to mention that buyers were confused by not beign able to pay their invoices directly by paypal.

Here's the official announcement:

I think this move may help delcampe recruiting more north american sellers and buyers. The more the better, for everyone.

Of course some delcampers, are not happy for some reason, stating that delcampe "has sold its soul" to paypal. To them I say: no one is forcing you to use paypal.

I have seen already a few stamps seller there, as well as many others.
There is quite a few nice vintage jewelry and collectibles seller.
I have bought 9 items in my first 2 days there.

The site, let's be honest, have a very addictive aspect to it. It is actually possible to chat with your seller or buyers, make wish list for everyone to see (and who knows, maybe a secret valentine will offer you something from your list). You can share handpick listings from fellow sellers and share it with others....

On the other hand, the buying aspect get's a little time to get use to, and currently does not support direct sales to foreign buyers (you need to work things out with the seller before hand, but that's easy to do).

As a seller you can import your ebay listing in a click of the mouse..and a little patience because you are not alone and there is often a queue.

Come in and say hi!

Moving to France..again

Euro versus US$

Well it is time now. I hold off as long as I could but I now will have to increase
my shipping cost on some items. When I moved to France in september, the euros was worth 1.36$. Now it is worth much more: 1.56$ and it will probably go as high as 1.60$+

My shipping prices were at cost back in september, meaning I now have to increase to follow the fall of the US$.

My price will remain honest and close to cost, and my shipping discount is remaining untouched. I will not change older listings, but all new listings will have the new costs if applicable.

I honestly hope that the rise will stop soon. The bright side for me, is that buying in the US with US$ can get me some great deals on toys for my baby and collectibles for my collections!

Easter holidays

In France people are always either on holidays or on strike.
Of course I am joking, but as a canadian this is the way I see it!
France is a small country with lots of people so there is no way everyone can take their holidays at the same time. So all the major holidays (Christmas, easter, summer) are spread out on something like 6 weeks.

So for my region, the 2 weeks of easter holidays will start on the week end of april 5th. I will not take 2 weeks because I will have more holidays in may and don't want to close the store too much.

So I will close the store for about a week (sunday april 6th to friday the 11th).
Everything paid after april 6th will ship sunday april the 12th.

A 9 month baby sure takes a lot of time!
And less time means less new items in my stores.
Shipping is as fast as usual no problem there, but I list less....much less.

My work room in getting more crowded by stamps every day!

Stampslore is moving to France

On september 10th, I will be moving from Canada to France. This will be my second *long term* stay in France. Some of you probably bought from me a few time while I was there the last time.

The store will close on september 3rd or 4th. All Payment must be received by friday september 7th. The store will re-open as soon as possible, probably somewhere around september 17th.

What does this change of location means to my buyers? Honestly not much. Shipping delays might be slightly longer to north america but not that much, and shipping to Europe should be faster, as for the rest of the world delay should be the same.

Shipping charges should be around what they are now, and the shipping discount I offer will still apply.

And you will get very nice France stamps on your packages!!

I will start offering all France new issues as I used to do. So if you need anything that is not listed feel free to ask.

It's a boy!!

I am back in business!. I gave birth to an healthy boy on june 25th. Baby, Daddy and mommy are doing great. Baby took all my time, but I am now back online with both stores.

Meanwhile, here's a picture of the big boy, 9 pounds 7 ounces...21 1/2 inches!

It is amazing. Comes in 2 volumes, full color, with thousands of pictures.
It is probably one of the best on the market (short of Deegam I suppose). Published by the Machin collectors club.

The latest canadian stamp issue features The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. 4 stamps were issued on may 9th. Also available in pane of 8 stamps and on FDC's. This is the last spring issue! You will have to wait until almost the end of june to see the next stamp: Captain George Vancouver.

Some of you have noticed...I have been listing more than usual: bulk lot, kilowares, unchecked collections, mixtures, accumulations. Why do you ask?? Because, if you refer to the cartoon here, I am fast approching stage 4!! So before my energy level hits the ground I am trying to upload the maximum of items I can.

By june 20th I will be over my head in diapers and bottles. Plus I also have to prepare for my return to Europe in august. I do not feel like carrying to much stuff!
